Pre-owned 1988 Kubicki Ex-Factor

This bass is in very nice shape considering its age.

A few dings and scratches here and there, nothing too major at all.

The tuners work smooth as silk, and the bass plays great and sounds great.

The 32" scale length makes it easy to really fly around the fretboard.

The drop D feature is SO cool - you can operate it easily in a second, and it doesn't require reprogramming your brain because the notes on the E string all remain in the same place - GENIUS!

This bass has a metallic black finish, but the nitrocellulose lacquer clearcoat has yellowed with age, giving the bass an almost dark green appearance depending on the angle of the light hitting it.

Note: This bass had a very interesting thing happen during the very last step of production, which is the stamping of the serial number on the back of the headstock. As you can see in the photo, some of the digits were double-struck. After speaking with Mike Haney (who worked for Kubicki and still supports these basses), the conclusion was that this bass was most likely built right at the time that the Kubicki employees were training the Fender employees how to build these basses, and whoever started stamping the serial number didn't do it correctly at first, and then the dyes were properly arranged in the jig and it was stamped properly. Of course, they didn't want to discard an entire perfectly good neck due to the small error, so they let it go out as it was. This makes it a very cool piece of history, as it is one of the very last basses that the original Kubicki employees had a hand in building before production was turned over to Fender, and alsoone of the last basses with the 6-way pickup selector and 18V preamp, prior to Fender changing to a 4-way pickup selector and a 9V preamp to reduce costs.
