John Fox Bass - Store Policies

Shipping Policy:

At this time, shipping to the 48 continental United States will be provided free of charge for all items, regardless of size or weight, unless otherwise noted within the item listing. An additional charge will be added for shipments outside of the "lower 48". If you are outside of the continental United States, contact us before purchasing to have the correct shipping charge added to your order.

Sales Tax Policy:

John Fox Bass is a New Hampshire based business. Local purchases are tax free in the state of NH. We do not collect sales tax for any out of state shipments at this time.

Pricing Policy

For all Custom built instruments (Adamovic, LEH, Marleaux, Canadian built Dingwalls, etc.), the final selling price (not including any tariff) becomes locked when the specs are finalized and submitted.

For all "Ready To Play" imported instruments, such as Dingwall SP1, Combustion, NG, D-Roc, etc., the price becomes locked when the bass gets shipped to John Fox Bass. This means the price you pay when the instrument arrives could be higher than the price that was in effect at the time your deposit was received.

In all cases, for instruments built outside the USA, the final price is also subject to change per the Tariff Policy below.

Tariff Policy

A tariff is a tax collected that is paid to the US Government by the importing party (John Fox Bass) at the time a product enters the United States. Under normal circumstances, the tariff rate is already included in the advertised price for an item, the end consumer usually does not pay for the tariff separately. All prices quoted on this website and in any correspondence with John Fox Bass are based on the tariff rates that were in effect on October 1, 2025. (For example, a 15% tariff on goods from the EU.) Recently, the USA has been making frequent, unexpected and unpredictable changes to tariff rates on imported products. For any imported product that has been purchased or reserved but has not already entered the USA, if the tariff rate in effect when the product enters the USA is different from the tariff rate that was in effect when the price was quoted or the deposit was paid, the new/current tariff rate must be applied. The final sale price will be adjusted (up or down) by the corresponding percentage change (up or down) in the tariff rate. If the tariff rate has increased, the final price will higher. If the tariff rate has decreased, the final price will be lower. Example: An imported bass is quoted at $8,000 based on a 15% tariff. When the bass enters the country, the tariff rate is 5%. The final price will be adjusted to $8,000 / 1.15 x 1.05 = $7,304.

Note that as of October 1, 2025, there is NO TARIFF on Canadian made Dingwall basses entering the USA, thanks to the United States - Mexico - Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA). The US President has threatened at various times to make changes to this Agreement, but as of now, the Agreement remains in effect.

Return Policy:

John Fox Bass guarantees you will be 100% satisfied with every aspect your purchase. If you are not satisfied, a refund will be given, according to the Refund Policy below, when the New or Used item has been returned (at your expense) and verified by John Fox Bass to be in the same condition in which you received it. To return an item, you must notify John Fox Bass by telephone or email within 3 business days of receiving the item that you wish to return it. Then John Fox Bass must receive the item within 10 business days from the date you received the item. John Fox Bass reserves the right to refuse to accept for return any item that has been serviced or modified in any way by any unauthorized person (including by the customer or any other person, regardless of qualifications) without prior written authorization from John Fox Bass. In most cases, items that have been serviced or modified without prior written authorization will be returned to the customer at the customer's expense.

Refund Policy:

Refunds will be given via the same payment method that was used for the original purchase.

New items that can still be sold as New may be returned for a full refund (minus any actual incurred shipping costs and minus any unrecoverable payment processing fees such as PayPal fees, etc. paid by John Fox Bass) within 10 days of receiving the item.

New, factory sealed packages (such as amplifiers and speakers) that were opened by you will incur a 15% restocking fee if you simply "changed your mind", since they can no longer be sold as "New". If the item is defective, it will be repaired or replaced under the Warranty Policy at no charge.

Used items will be refunded in full, minus any actual shipping costs incurred by John Fox Bass, and minus any unrecoverable payment processing fees such as PayPal fees, etc. paid by John Fox Bass.

Actual incurred repair or restoration costs will also be subtracted from your refund for any New or Used items that are returned with new damage or wear and tear caused by you.

In all cases, the customer must pay for return shipping, and the actual shipping cost that was incurred by John Fox Bass to ship the item to the customer will be subtracted from the refund unless the item was not as described.

Warranty Policy:

All new products purchased from John Fox Bass are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. In the unlikely event that you experience a warranty issue, John Fox Bass will be happy to assist you in working with the manufacturer to get the issue resolved. In certain cases, the item can be returned to John Fox Bass for repair or replacement.

All new instruments, used gear and floor models are tested before shipping, and guaranteed to be fully operational unless otherwise stated.

New items that are in factory sealed boxes and/or have never been removed from their factory packaging have not been tested by John Fox Bass.

Trade-In Policy:
John Fox Bass is willing to consider trades for basses that are highly marketable.
However, just like the big box music stores, you will receive about half of the current expected retail sale price.
So it is in your best interest to sell your bass yourself if possible.

Consignment Sales:
John Fox Bass will accept certain gear for consignment, on a case by case basis.
After your item sells and the buyer's return period has ended, you will receive 75% of the final selling price via cash or check.

Custom Orders:
John Fox Bass will be delighted to assist you in building the Adamovic, Alleva-Coppolo, Bluesman Vintage, Dingwall, Muckelroy or Skjold bass of your dreams.

In general, all Custom Order Deposits become NON-REFUNDABLE as soon as construction begins.

Privacy Policy: John Fox Bass will securely store your name, email address, and phone number in order to be able to contact you regarding your purchase, or to share information about John Fox Bass products and services that we believe you will find useful. John Fox Bass will not share your personal contact information with any other party for any purpose whatsoever. You cannot limit this sharing, since John Fox Bass will not be sharing your personal information. John Fox Bass will never take possession of, nor have access to, your credit card information. All purchases will be conducted securely either online through this website or in person via a Square point of sale system.
